Coming Soon…A Podcast about Labyrinths

So I’ve been toying for several months with what my next creative project would be. I think I’ve come to a decision — I’m going to try to make a podcast about labyrinths. As far as I can tell, there aren’t any current podcasts out there devoted to walking these mystical mazes. And I think I know how I’ll format the show too.

Part of the show will be devoted to interviews. I have now walked well over eighty labyrinths that I’ve found through the Worldwide Labyrinth Locator. The locator has contact information for most of the labyrinths, so I can easily reach out to the people responsible for the labyrinth. I will invite them to join me for a conversation about the labyrinth that they designed or built. I have a few questions in mind:

  • What inspired you to build a labyrinth?
  • Why did you choose the particular shape, size, and materials?
  • What do you find meaningful or powerful about labyrinths?
  • What is your hope for those who walk your labyrinth?

I’ve got a feeling that many of those I reach out to would be delighted to have a conversation with me about this.

I will also spend part of each episode talking directly to the listening audience. I might share an adapted form of the blog post I wrote when I walked the labyrinth we talked about in the interview, or I might share some information about labyrinths each week, their history, their benefits, and resources for how to find them in your own area.

At this point, my working titles for the podcast are Labyrinths: Circles of Meaning or Labyrinths: Walking in Circles.

I am really anxious about doing this. Hosting a podcast, particularly as an interviewer, is out of my comfort zone. I’m concerned about how much time this will all take. I’m concerned that I’m going to present myself as some expert on labyrinths when I’m really not.

But I think this is important. My hope for this podcast is that it will help people find inspiration, by hearing about one way that some of us find deep spiritual meaning. I hope it inspires them either to walk a labyrinth themselves, or to discover a good tool for their own unique spiritual journey.

I have no idea when this will happen. I have to start by reaching out to a particular friend and picking his brain for all he knows about podcasting. And then we’ll get started. Hopefully an episode can drop by the end of the summer? We’ll see.

For now, I would love to hear your thoughts on this project. Would you be interested in this? What other questions would you be interested in asking the guests? What would you like to hear in a podcast like this? Thanks for any thoughts you have.
