Christmas Poem XXIV: “Canticle of the Angels”

Every year, I write a poem for Christmas, and include it in my Christmas cards to friends and family. For the days leading up to Christmas, I’m publishing all of my Christmas poems here, as a kind of Advent calendar.

Today’s poem was written in 2015.

My soul doth magnify the Lord
Who saves from every fear and danger
The Prince of Peace who breaks the sword
The ancient hope of all the angels

My soul doth bless the living savior
Whose dawn will shine on kin and strangers
The Everlasting Father of all favor
The tender love of all the angels

My soul doth sing the sacred story
That called the shepherds to the manger
In the Mighty God they glory
The excelling joy of all the angels

My soul now in your peace doth rest
Whose light is shining true and faithful
The Wondrous Counselor has blessed
The saving peace of all the angels
