I am an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I have served several congregations in Eastern Pennsylvania. I have also lived with major depressive disorder for most of my life. This blog is a collection of many sorts of my writings — sermons, reflections, poems, essays, and so forth. Most of the blog deals with either Christian faith or mental illness, or both.

My first book, Darkwater: A Pastor’s Memoir of Depression and Faith, was published in 2022.

I write a weekly newsletter, Biblia Luna, and I am available for speaking engagements (on-site or virtual) and for podcast interviews.

I live in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania with my wife Heather and our children Alex and Ben.

Hi Michael – I belong to a local walking club (the Liberty Bell Wanderers) which is part of a national walking club (American Volkssport Association, dba: America’s Walking Club). We have a special program called “A-MAZE-ing Labyrinths”. Our walkers walk 14 different labyrinths and earn a labyrinth design patch.
