Christmas Poem VIII: “Do You Hear the Christmas Songs”

Every year, I write a poem for Christmas, and include it in my Christmas cards to friends and family. For the days leading up to Christmas, I’m publishing all of my Christmas poems here, as a kind of Advent calendar.

Today’s poem was written in 1999, when I was a student at seminary.

Do you hear the Christmas songs
The music and the bells
The magic of the carols
And the mystery they tell

Do you see the Christmas lights
Of white and green and red
Angelic signs of peace on earth
A winter’s starry bed

Do you know of Christmas love
To share with friends and kin
The greatest gift to give or get
That ushers Christmas in

Do you feel the Christmas joy
The wonder of this night
That keeps us warm thru’out the year
With mystic brilliant light
